What is the Netflix app?

Netflix is a streaming entertainment app for Android phones and tablets, published by Netflix, Inc. It gives you access to a catalog of television series, films, and other video titles that you can watch on demand.

The Google Play listing shows more than 3,626,206,566 installs and a 4.8 out of 5 rating from 16,705,601 ratings, which makes it one of the most widely installed entertainment apps on the platform.

Is Netflix free, and does it have ads or in-app purchases?

The app itself is free to download from Google Play. According to its listing, it contains no ads and offers no in-app purchases.

Keep in mind that watching content generally requires a Netflix account and a subscription plan managed by the service. The app's listing price being free does not mean every title is unlocked without a membership, so check the current plan details inside the service before you commit.

What's new in the latest Netflix update?

The most recent update, dated 21 October 2026, focuses on improving the viewing experience on both phones and tablets. The changes aim to make it easier to browse and enjoy newer releases alongside older favorites.

Because release details can change, the Google Play changelog is the best place to confirm the specifics of each version.

Android requirements and download size

Netflix is distributed through Google Play, so it installs like any other Android app. Minimum Android version, storage needs, and supported devices are listed on the app's Play Store page and can vary by device.

Streaming video also uses data, so a stable Wi-Fi connection or a generous mobile data plan helps avoid buffering and unexpected charges.

Pros and cons of the Netflix app

On the plus side, the app is free to install, carries no ads according to its listing, and has a very high user rating. Its large catalog and wide device support make it convenient for everyday viewing.

On the downside, the content requires a paid membership, streaming uses significant data, and the full experience depends on having a reliable connection. Some features may also vary by region and plan.

Who is Netflix best suited for?

Netflix suits people who want a single place to watch series and movies on their phone or tablet, particularly those who already subscribe or are considering a plan. Commuters, travelers, and households sharing a device may find it especially handy.

Users who want free, ad-supported content without a subscription may need to look at other options instead.
