Microsoft Teams

What is Microsoft Teams on Android?

Microsoft Teams is a business app from Microsoft Corporation that brings chat, voice and video calls, and file sharing into one place. It is listed in the Business category on Google Play.

The app has been installed more than 651,844,773 times and holds a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 8,826,541 ratings on Google Play, which gives a sense of its wide use across workplaces and schools.

How does Microsoft Teams work?

Users sign in and organize conversations into teams and channels. Each channel can hold messages, meeting links, and shared files, so project discussions stay in one thread instead of scattered across email.

Calls and meetings can be started from chat, and the app is designed to work alongside other Microsoft tools that an organization may already use.

What's new in version 1416/1.0.0.2026183002?

The latest version, last updated on 2026-10-22, adds the ability to use Copilot to produce summaries of channel meetings. This can help members who missed a session catch up on the main points without rewatching the full recording.

Is Microsoft Teams free, and does it have ads?

The app is free to download from Google Play. It does not contain ads. It does offer in-app purchases, so some features or upgrades may require paying within the app.

Because the app is aimed at organizations, access to a team often depends on an account set up by an employer, school, or group administrator.

Android requirements and download size

Exact minimum Android version and download size are listed on the Google Play page and can change between releases, so check there before installing. Because the app handles calls and shared files, a device with enough storage and a stable connection will give the best experience.

Pros and cons

Strengths: free to download, no ads, a high rating from a very large number of users, and a single place for chat, calls, and files.

Drawbacks: in-app purchases are available, the app is built around organizational accounts so individual use can feel limited, and heavy use of video calls can take up battery and data.

Who is Microsoft Teams best for?

The app suits office workers, remote teams, students, and groups that need shared channels and regular meetings. People who only need casual messaging with friends may find other apps simpler.
