Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out

What is Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out?

Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out is a communication app for Android, published by Discord Inc. It is categorized under Communication on Google Play. People use it to chat by text, talk by voice, and video call with friends, classmates, or online communities.

The app is organized around servers, which are spaces that group channels by topic. Some servers are built for gaming, others for study groups, creative projects, or hobbies. Direct messages and group calls let smaller circles talk privately.

How does Discord work on Android?

After you sign up and join a server or start a direct conversation, you can switch between text channels and voice channels. Voice channels let members talk live, and video or screen sharing can be used during calls, depending on the setup.

The app works as a companion to the desktop version, so many settings and conversations stay in sync across devices.

What's new in version 350.8 - Stable?

Version 350.8 adds a spoiler setting that was previously only on desktop. You can now choose to always show spoiler-tagged text in chats instead of tapping to reveal each one.

This release also fixes a display problem where the lower parts of letters such as g, y, and p were cut off in several places. The developer notes that many smaller fixes are listed in its public patch notes.

Requirements, size, and install details

Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out requires Android 7.0 or later. The current version is 350.8 - Stable, last updated on 2026-10-23. Google Play lists more than 698,999,448 installs.

The app is free to download from Google Play. Google Play shows that it contains no ads, but it does offer in-app purchases. Check the Play Store listing for the current download size on your device, since it can vary by phone and version.

Is Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out free, and does it have ads?

The app costs nothing to download. Google Play lists it as containing no ads, so the main cost to consider is optional in-app purchases. Those purchases are not required to use the core chat and call features.

Users should review the purchase options in the store listing and set spending limits in their Google Play account if they want tighter control.

Pros and cons

Strengths: the app is free, has no ads according to its store listing, and supports text, voice, and video in one place. Its large install base and a 4.3 out of 5 rating from more than 7 million ratings suggest broad satisfaction.

Drawbacks: in-app purchases are available, and the app depends on a current Android device running Android 7.0 or later. Its server-and-channel layout can feel busy for new users, and rating averages do not capture every experience.

Who is Discord - Talk, Play, Hang Out best for?

The app suits people who want to stay in touch with groups, especially gamers, hobby communities, and study or work teams that need quick voice chat. It is a good fit for anyone comfortable with server-based messaging.

People who want a simple one-to-one messaging app, or who prefer to avoid any in-app purchase options, may prefer a more minimal alternative.
