White Noise

What is White Noise?

White Noise is an Android app from developer TMSOFT that plays continuous background sounds, such as static-like noise and other ambient layers, to make a room feel calmer. People often use it to mask distracting sounds while they work, study, or try to fall asleep.

The app is listed under Health & Fitness on Google Play. It has been installed more than 357,004 times.

How does White Noise work?

You choose a sound, start playback, and let it run in the background. Many listeners set it up before bed or during a long work session so that sudden noises from traffic, neighbors, or household activity are less noticeable.

The app also includes a mix pad, where you can combine sounds and adjust how quickly the mix changes. Advanced settings let you decide how the sound behaves alongside other audio on your phone.

What is new in the latest version?

The latest update, dated 2026-10-23, rebuilds the audio engine to make playback smoother and more dependable. It adds a new advanced option that lets the sound play alongside music, and it widens the speed range available on the mix pad.

This release also brings the app up to date with recent Android versions and support libraries, repairs the home screen widget, and fixes several crashes and smaller bugs.

Is White Noise free, and does it have ads or in-app purchases?

The app has a listed price of $0.99, so it is a paid download through Google Play rather than a free one. It does not contain ads, which helps for sleep and focus use where interruptions are unwelcome.

It does offer in-app purchases, so some extra content or features may cost money beyond the initial price. Check the in-app purchase listing on Google Play before you buy if you want to know exactly what is offered.

Pros and cons of White Noise

On the plus side, the app has a strong rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 17,973 ratings, no advertising, and a focused set of controls for ambient sound. The recent engine update and the widget fix address some common complaints about smoothness and reliability.

On the downside, the app is not free, and in-app purchases are available. Its Android requirements and download size are not covered here, so check the Google Play listing for the current minimum version and storage needs on your device.

Who is White Noise best for?

White Noise suits people who want a simple, ad-free sound tool for sleep, study, or focus and are willing to pay a one-time fee. It is also a reasonable choice for anyone who likes to layer sounds or tweak how audio mixes with music.

If you prefer free apps with ads, or you need guided meditation or detailed sleep tracking, you may want to look at other options and compare what each one includes.
