Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts

What is Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts?

Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts is an Android app from Audible, Inc. in the Books & Reference category. It gives users a way to listen to audiobooks and podcasts on a phone or tablet instead of reading printed or digital text.

The app is free to download from Google Play and has more than 276 million installs, with a Google Play rating of 4.6 out of 5 from about 1.77 million ratings.

How does the app work?

Users download the app from Google Play, sign in, and browse a catalog of spoken-word titles and shows. Playback controls let listeners pause, skip, and adjust speed while they go about other tasks.

Because the app is built around listening, it suits commutes, workouts, and other times when reading is hard. The exact library and subscription options available can vary by region and account, so check the store listing for current details.

What's new in the latest version?

The most recent update, dated October 21, 2026, is a maintenance release focused on bug fixes and general improvements. The developer notes that users who run into problems should contact customer service, and feedback can be sent through the company's help website or its X account.

No specific new features are highlighted in the release notes, so the update is best viewed as stability and polish work.

Is Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts free, and does it have ads or in-app purchases?

The app is free to download. It contains ads and offers in-app purchases, so users should expect promotional content and may be asked to pay for some titles or extras inside the app.

Those purchases are optional, but people who want to avoid spending should review what is locked behind payment before committing.

Pros and cons

On the positive side, the app has a large user base, a high average rating, a free download, and a broad range of audio content in one place.

On the downside, ads and in-app purchases may be frustrating for some users. As with any app of this size, it takes up storage space on the device, and older phones may not run it as smoothly. Check the Google Play listing for the current download size and device requirements before installing.

Who is Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts best for?

The app suits people who enjoy listening to stories, nonfiction, or shows while commuting, exercising, or doing chores. It is also a reasonable choice for readers who want an audio option alongside print.

Users who dislike ads or prefer to pay once for content may want to look at other options before deciding.
